Since we published the top 20 cities in 2020, the total number of FORTIFIED Homes has nearly doubled to 44,064. At the end of 2022, there were FORTIFIED Homes in 23 states and over 440 cities, with the top 20 cities in Alabama and North Carolina.

In Louisiana, the number of FORTIFIED homes is increasing quickly throughout the state due, in part, to the advocacy work of Smart Home America and the technical expertise of IBHS. FORTIFIED is now used by the Louisiana Office of Community Development and the Louisiana Housing Corporation to make new and existing single-family homes and multifamily complexes more resilient to better weather the next storm. The Louisiana Department of Insurance has supported FORTIFIED and has diligently worked to secure funding to launch the Louisiana Fortify Homes Program, which will further increase designations.

FORTIFIED is a beyond-code construction standard that can increase home value, qualify homeowners for insurance discounts or tax credits, and provide them peace of mind knowing they have a climate and disaster-resilient home.

Regardless of where your city stands, now is the time to invest in FORTIFIED before the next disaster. FORTIFIED can reduce the damage caused by tornados, hurricanes, thunderstorms, hail, and high winds.
