Your community can affect your flood insurance rates and how your home is built to withstand floods by participating in the NFIP and Community Rating System (CRS). When communities use updated building codes and participate in the NFIP and CRS, homes can be built to resist floods, and insurance rates can be reduced for everyone in a community.

The Community Rating System (CRS) is a voluntary incentive program that recognizes communities for implementing floodplain management best practices that exceed the NFIP minimum requirements. In exchange for a community’s proactive efforts to reduce flood risk, policyholders can receive reduced flood insurance premiums.
